City of Scottsdale

City of Scottsdale

Scottsdale is a town with a history. It was incorporated in 1951 and its newly elected mayor attached the slogan 'The West's Most Western Town' to the city. Long before this, the area was farmed by the Hohokam, who, it is believed, migrated from northern Mexico. Settlers made this their permanent home in 1888.
The town is elevated 1,248 feet above sea level and has an estimated population of over 180,000. The climate has been known to reach highs of over 100 degrees F during the summer with lows of 65 degrees F in the winter. The area is blessed with over 300 days of sunny weather every year.
Scottsdale is well known for its upmarket living; the many shopping centers, art galleries and gourmet restaurants are just a few examples. One of its unique attractions is the hot-air ballooning that is frequently in evidence across the Sonoran desert.
Legends abound in the area, and the Dutchman's Lost Mine is one of the most enigmatic and strange stories. It is reputed to be located somewhere in the Superstition Mountains and to this day people come here in search of it.
Voted one of the residents' most favorite and unique attractions is Papago Park. It was used as a Prisoner of War Camp during World War II and later turned into a veterans' hospital. In 1959 the City of Phoenix bought it and turned it into a City Park and this is how it has remained ever since.
There are many other recreational pursuits to be found in Scottsdale. The town has over seven miles of lush parkland with lakes, golf courses, swimming pools and multi-use paths for those who prefer to skate, bike, walk or jog. If it's culture you are seeking there are many museums and cultural events taking place throughout the year: The Heard Museum provides an education in Native American History and the Desert Botanical Garden houses arguably the world's largest collection of desert plants. Scottsdale has a desert festival in March, a summer Rodeo Series in June, an Airfair in October and the Borgata Farmers' Market in December and these are only a few examples of the regular annual events!
If you are relocating with children, Scottsdale is a Unified School District and reputed to be 'Arizona's most Excelling school district'. Those interested in furthering their education will be interested to learn that the area also has a reputation for first class post-secondary schools. It boasts the Arizona State University, the largest in the state; The American Graduate School of International Management; DeVry University; and the Art Institute of Phoenix.

DC Ranch

The Neighborhood - A neighborhood at DC Ranch consists of a relatively small number of homes in areas that inhabit their own distinctive niches in the community. Each neighborhood is just the right size so you feel you're a part of something, not overwhelmed by it.
Grass parks within the neighborhood provide a place where the kids (and you) can kick the soccer ball around and play catch.
Homes are planned with front porches and courtyards where neighbors can actually gather and get to know each other. And almost every homesite borders natural open space or desert.
Neighborhoods are the heart of DC Ranch. Within them, streets meander, desert trees line the way, the homes have individual character, and side entries reduce the visual dominance of garage doors.
Right in front of your home, this combination of winding streets, unique home designs, and front porches and courtyards helps create a genuine sense of community. These are neighborhoods that bring back the times when people actually knew their neighbors. It's the kind of place that's been missing in Arizona, but not anymore.
The Lifestyle - At DC Ranch, there is a real difference and it's as basic as providing an environment in which neighborhoods, and people, can flourish.
DC Ranch as a whole will enhance the spirit of friendliness and being connected to something special.
All your basic needs are provided for within the community, starting with Copper Ridge, a K-8 school campus that's part of the Scottsdale School District. In addition plans call for retail and business offices, medical buildings, places of worship and parks.
We also believe strongly in lifelong learning. Our hope is to create the opportunity for such learning by building alliances within the community with local colleges, museums and research facilities.
A city of Scottsdale police station, Rural/Metro fire station and private community patrol are located at DC Ranch to enhance safety.
DC Ranch is literally connected by miles of paths and trails that take you anywhere on the Ranch -- up into the McDowell Mountains' wilderness areas, or down to the future Town Center -- all without having to drive your car. Kids will be able to ride their bikes to friends' houses or the grocery store without ever having to cross a major street.
While hiking and biking are two of the most prevalent ways to enjoy DC Ranch, there is also a community center, Desert Camp, where you can swim and play tennis, scare up a game of basketball or volleyball and work out in the fitness center. Staff members help coordinate activities, including a recreational program and kids program.
The attention to detail includes your virtual environment as well. Every resident at DC Ranch will have access to RanchNet?, a high-speed Intranet providing you with opportunities to interact with your neighbors and the world.
The Homes - The builders, Camelot Homes, Columbia Communities and The P.B. Bell Companies have designed homes exclusively for DC Ranch, homes not found anywhere else in the Valley. And, no two homes of the same design can be placed next to each other -- like in the wonderful old neighborhoods where every house and every street was definitely its own.
The homes at DC Ranch feature a rare level of "finish" in the Valley. The builders have created exceptional designs that provide for character on all four sides. The homes are built with extraordinary quality using materials and colors that echo and harmonize with the DC Ranch landscape.
DC Ranch homes are connected by fiber-optic pathways that bring sophisticated high-speed data services, superior-quality voice and video services.

DC Ranch History
As its name suggests, DC Ranch began as a working cattle ranch. The ranch earmark and brand were first established in 1885. Over the years hard work and a belief in its rewards helped the land and the ranch prosper. In the late 1950s the DC Ranch saw its last cattle drive, but the same hard-working community spirit lives on.
Today, the ranch encompasses nearly 3,700 developable acres and offers spectacular views of the McDowell Mountains, Pinnacle Peak and the city below. Ancient petroglyphs as well as old gold mines and cowboy trails help to create a strong sense of the past in a modern environment. As a reflection of this heritage, DC Ranch features the use of split rail and natural rock fences, as well as other thematic landscaping.
